New SCOUT365 Fly Caster Makes Inflatable Boat Fishing More Stable

New SCOUT365 Fly Caster Makes Inflatable Boat Fishing More Stable

Scout Inflatables adds world’s first stabilizer bar to 12’ inflatable boat for stand-up fishing and casting.

Irvine, CA – September 4, 2017 – Claiming a “world’s first” significant improvement for small boat fishing, Scout Inflatables introduces the Fly Caster stabilizer bar upgrade to their existing SCOUT365 inflatable boat. Scout (scoutinflatables.com) engineered the bar to provide excellent stability while standing up for fishing in lakes, rivers and oceans while keeping the deflated kit light enough to carry.

The company says that the new light-weight bar makes it possible to confidently cast over long distances in any direction but is simple to install and take apart.

The new bar can be retrofitted onto existing SCOUT365 boats and is specially engineered for inflatables. According to founder and spokesman Graham Kestrup the new bar is unique because making a stable and durable bar is much harder to do on inflatables. “You can easily screw stabilizer bars onto boats made of plastic, fiberglass and aluminum, but inflatable boats are a significant challenge! We’ve solved the tough issues of making a bar that won’t come loose, works well and remains easy to assemble. There’s no risk of puncturing the boat, it’s rock solid and it won’t wobble around, either,” Kestrup said.

The bar is attached with tension straps and quick release pins for easy assembly, and it can be folded forward out of the way if not being used.  Built-in adjustments lets you set to your preferred height and each bar comes with a removable padded cover making cleanup quick and easy.  Fish bait hands can get a bit stinky.

According to Kestrup, no other inflatable boat makers have succeeded in putting a stabilizer on a boat this small, yet the lightweight bar works surprisingly well. Kestrup’s claim has been put to the test by professional fishing guides with excellent results.

Accomplished fishing guide Neil Hirtzel recently put the Fly Caster through its paces for the company. “After fishing on larger trailer boats and on land for many years, my initial impressions were skeptical. However once on the water, even in a good ocean chop, I was able to fly cast in a 360 degree position leaning up against the stabilizer bar,” Hirtzel reported. “I was already familiar with how stable the SCOUT365 boats were but with the stabilizer bar installed, it just blew me away with the freedom it gave me to cast in all directions. And being able to lean my weight against the bar—it was designed perfectly. The folks at Scout Inflatables know their stuff,” he said.

Kestrup also pointed out other benefits to the new bar for fishermen interested in a better experience. “This bar means you can really lean on something while you’re fighting a fish. Sportsmen know what I mean; it’s just tough to work a fish while you’re sitting down. With this bar, you can plant your feet, lean into the bar and really control things,” he said.

The company offers a full-sized custom tent add-on for camping or using the boat as a hunting blind.  The tent is custom made and clips onto the hull and creating a completely dry environment.  Another clever add-on that transforms the Scout365 into a whole new vessel.

About the SCOUT365

The SCOUT365 is an upgrade over the average inflatable and has been on the market for less than a year. The inflatable comes in seven colors, is made of super-tough material, is ocean-ready andmotor-capable. Founder GrahamKestrup says the floor is so sturdy “You can stand up in it without accidently going for a swim!”

Made with the 5th wheel and RV crowd in mind, the SCOUT365 plus its equipment weighs in at just 68 pounds and fits in a duffle. The boat inflates to twelve feet long by three and a half feet wide and is capable of seating three. A reinforced transomcan handle a small motor and a special high-pressure floor gives stand-up stability not usually available in inflatables.

Special ridges on the bottom of the boat called “strakes” protect the boat while it’s being dragged on land to avoid punctures.

As is normal for such boats, a foot pump is included and requires about ten minutes to launch, but Kestrup points out, “Add a small 12 volt battery and an accessory pump, and the boat is ready in a couple of minutes with nearly no work at all and no danger of over-inflation.”

The SCOUT365 design is a blend of dory fishing boats, kayaks and dinghies; sea-worthy but small. The flat bottom is stable enough to stand on and the peaked bow design handles ocean chop without going for a spin.“Most small inflatable boats are unstable, especially at sea,” said Kestrup. “With the flat bottom and extended waterline the SCOUT365 is a lot better than average.”

The design pulls together the best existing inflatable features with newer ideas like the high pressure floor. “Portables don’t need wood plank floors anymore,” Kestrup said. “The high pressure floors are just amazing,” he said. “We use this same technique for inflatable paddle boards and air decks. It’s like standing on a solid hunk of wood.”

Graham admits the new company went a little overboard to perfect their new boats and products with an eye to making their mark. “We’ve got decades on the water between us, so really we just wanted to fix all the things about inflatable boats that have bothered us for years.”

The SCOUT365 comes with everything needed (seats, foot pump, stowage bag, carry bag and oars), but accessories are available. Add-ons include folding hand carts for longer walks to the water, padded seats with adjustable backrests, kayak-style paddle upgrades, extra zippered under-seat stowage bags and a 12-volt air pump. Fishing enthusiasts can also add rod holders.

“This thing fits in your trunk, inflates in minutes, is tough as nails, takes a motor and has a big enough floor to stand on,” said Graham Kestrup.
